Selecting the right recruiter

There are some important things to keep in mind when selecting a recruiter that is right for you and your job search. When looking for a recruiter here are a few tips:

Make sure they have industry experience

·         A recruiter that has worked in the telecommunications or software  industry knows a lot more about what you are looking for as a telecom  or software professional as well as what an employer looks for in a qualified candidate.

Ask them for their track record - firm examples

·         If they have a solid track record, a recruiter will be able to give you solid examples of there latest placements and clientele.

Select someone who is persistent and professional

·         When you are checking out recruiters make sure they have a professional demeanor and are aggressive in pursuing your needs.

Reputation and Integrity is key - ask for references

·         Reputation in the staffing industry is critical. If you have any doubt, make sure you ask for candidate references.

Make sure they listen to you

·         A recruiter that doesn't listen is not going to be able to properly sell you to a potential employer or convey what type of position you are hoping to fill.

Personal attention to your needs not just the jobs they want to fill

·         The recruiter you select should be able to tailor your job search to meet your needs and desires. In other words, they should not only submit you to open jobs on their desk.  They should also act as your employment agent.  Actively searching for other opportunities with new clients.

Accuracy and promptness important

·         Make sure your recruiter is always accurate with the information they get from you and the information they relay on potential employers. It is important that they always contact you in a prompt and timely manner with information that way you know they are doing the same with potential employers.
